Anitha Devi V discusses Narratives in the Interface: Fantasy Digital Fiction and CMC Dynamics This research looks at the way Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) theory can be used for fantasy-based digital fiction channels including Walking in Circles, Epic NPC Man by Viva La Dirt League, Riese: Kingdom Falling and The Guild. Instead of just distributing videos, these series depend on YouTube to help develop the story and respond to audience participation. This study examines how the systems and routines of CMC platforms (such as comment threads, likes and algorithms) affect how stories are told and how people experience and respond to them. Thanks to digital performance and staying constantly visible on platforms, fantasy storytelling in these channels becomes about community, too. Synchronicity, interactivity, social presence and media richness, important concepts in CMC, are used to show that digital fiction on YouTube results from the blending of fantasy, regular user engagement and specific styles of communication found on YouTube. It claims that the kind of YouTube fiction we are looking at shows how the story’s meaning comes from the way users and technology interact. Digital fantasy narratives are now often created and experienced with the help of AI which makes it easier to create flexible stories for everyone. Additionally, these tools play a role in changing how CMC dynamics impact the way visibility, interaction and response from users are handled online.
