Dr. Plamen Kushkiev, EdD discusses Exploring the versatility of an AI bot as a language tutor and digital companion in an EAP classroom in Ontario. In this session, I will present my insights and experience utilizing an AI bot to enhance my pedagogical realizations in an EAP classroom at a public college in Ontario, Canada. I will first discuss my decision to experiment with one particular bot, focusing on its features and affordances as a language tutor and digital companion. My presentation will then briefly describe Anderson’s (2020) TATE model (text, analysis, task, and exploration) and the reasons why I selected this lesson framework to integrate an AI bot. The talk will then continue with specific examples of the lesson stages in which the bot was used to enhance my teaching performance and support learners’ developing language abilities.
